LOCAL CHURCH HIGHLIGHTS

Emmanuel Christian Center, New Baltimore, extends sympathy to Pastor Wayne and Debbie Nabors. Debbie’s mother passed away in August. The church praises God for two salvation decisions and three baptisms in the month of July.


First, Clarkston, saw 80 people attend their Vacation Bible School, including 50 new or recent contacts. There were eight salvation commitments and two baptisms in July. (Rev. Bud Freed)


Lighthouse, East Jordan, saw over 200 in attendance nightly for their Vacation Bible School in July. The theme was “Power Lab.” (Rev. James Jordan)


Parkside, Sterling Heights, extends sympathy to Associate Pastor, Tim Holcomb-Densmore, whose mother passed away in July. (Rev. Doug Connelly)

Church Plant Update
Evident Church is the newest church plant in the District. The group will meet at a local school in Macomb Township in the north suburbs of Detroit. Rev. Josh Hossler is serving as the lead pastor. Assisting him are Rev. Matt Woodburn and Tim Joye. The official public launch takes place September 21.
In preparations for the launch, the church has held three preview services this summer. 140 people attended the first preview and two individuals accepted Christ as Savior at the next service.
The project is a cooperative effort between the District and several Detroit area Missionary Churches. Pray for God’s blessing on the church during its September launch. May many lives find Christ through the ministry of Evident Church.

VISION SUMMIT
The District is calling all churches to prayer on Tuesday, September 2, as the District Executive Board and District Directors meet for a vision summit. Critical work will be done on the District’s Five-Year Goals, Vision, Mission and Values. Pray for Spirit-led direction and wisdom.
 

 

FALL RETREAT ACTIVITIES
The Annual Ministers’ Retreat takes place Oct. 6-8 at the AuSable Institute near Mancelona, MI. This three-day, two-night event offers pastors and associates an opportunity for spiritual and personal renewal in a relaxed atmosphere. Pastor and SonLife Trainer, Don Roscoe, is the guest speaker. Our focus is “Becoming Disciple-Making Pastors.”
The District’s Pastors’ Wives Retreat happens Oct. 24-25 at the Gull Lake Conference Center near Battle Creek. “Unmasking” is the topic for the weekend retreat.
All churches are urged to cover the expenses for their pastors and wives to attend these retreats.
 

SUMMER MISSIONS TEAMThirty-one students and sponsors traveled to New York City in July for a week’s worth of ministry.   Led by Neil Davis (Trinity, Yale) and Tim Patch (Redeemer, Shelby Twp.),  the group restored a public school play-ground, tutored, provided kids clubs at Brazilian and Hispanic churches, did street evangelism, and painted/ power-washed an entire church building.

Walled Lake votes on a pastoral candidate from North Central District September 14.


Paul Melcher is providing pastoral leadership for
Watertown, Sandusky.


Becky Bartle is now serving as part-time youth director at
Fellowship Bible, Brown City.


Lance Witham has resigned as associate pastor at
New Faith Chapel.


Four District churches are currently without senior pastors:
Bates, Williamsburg; Lamotte, Marlette; Marquette; and New Faith Chapel, Romulus.
Please pray for these congregations as they seek God’s guidance and direction for the future.
