Are you READY??

A look at Romans 13:8-14

The time is short! Are you ready? We are living in the days just prior to the return of Jesus. Paul wrote in the thirteenth chapter of Romans that “our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over, the day is almost here.” (Romans 13:11-12)

It is imperative that we recognize and remember that very soon we will stand before Jesus, whether individually as we leave this life and step into eternity or when Jesus comes to take His Church out of the world. Each of us is standing right on the threshold of the doorway that will take us to see Him! Passing from this life does should not be a source of dread and anxiety to the Christian. Looking forward to seeing our Lord Jesus is exhilarating and exciting!

In the context of Romans 13 quoted above and being prepared to leave this life, Paul discusses the love and care we ought to show to one another in the family of God. He speaks of the “continuing debt” that each of us owes, to love one another. That is the very fulfillment of the Scriptural commands that describe how we should interact with the people around us. Jesus said that strong evidence identifying a follower of Jesus is the love we show to those around us, especially those who are part of the family of God.

Paul also reminds us in this passage to “clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 13:14). Every part of our interaction with the world around us should be the expression of the love and character of Jesus Himself. If we will live that way, we must be intimately connected with our Lord Jesus to the point that every facet of our existence displays Jesus to the watching world.

Live ready! Love deeply! Serve continually in the Name of Jesus and for His glory!
